Eli's Story

Eli Hansen was diagnosed with high-risk stage 4 Neuroblastoma in 2016 when he was 4-years-old. He went through 16 months of treatment at Children’s Wisconsin which included 5 rounds of week-long inpatient chemo, stem cell collection, surgery to remove the tumor on his adrenal gland, 2 bone marrow transplants, 12 rounds of radiation, and 5 rounds of week-long inpatient immunotherapy. He enjoyed a year off treatment while participating in a maintenance trial out of Helen DeVos Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Unfortunately, he relapsed in August 2018. Eli complete 5 more rounds of chemotherapy plus immunotherapy at Children’s Wisconsin, as well as 24 rounds of radiation to the new tumor site. He then began treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering at NYC for a different type of immunotherapy and was able to move on to a Neuroblastoma vaccine trial.

Unfortunately, he relapsed again in June 2019. Eli spent that summer pursuing holistic options. In fall 2019, Eli enrolled in a trial at Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago. There is no known cure or protocol for relapsed Neuroblastoma, thus all the travel and clinical trials. He has his family maintain hope that the right combination of treatment will be found and clear Eli of all disease for good. You can follow his journey on Eli’s Super Squad. Eli Enjoys playing Minecraft and Roblox on his iPad. He has recently taken an interest in the military, and he enjoys wearing his army costume and reading books from the library about the army. His favorite color is red. He likes chocolate and chicken nuggets.
